Who: Created by Effusion Africa Limited in 2009, WOMAN 2.1 Summit has earned a reputation for pioneering the advancement of women in business, leadership and technology and has become known for its roster of accomplished speakers with attendees coming from within Africa and other parts of the world. Having received a United States Congressional Award for it audacious goal of preparing women for new opportunities in Africa, the summit was also nominated in the Global Professional Achievers Award for same.
The weekend of the 18th of October was an outstanding one in Accra as GoWomen with varied interests and all works of life power gathered to discuss the rise of African women in emerging economies of the 21st century. The event which was held at the National Theatre was created to bring together ambitious, forward-thinking and successful women with audacious dreams, big ideas and compelling stories. More than 600 women assembled to get the best of advice and enjoy personal interaction with some of their role models. The theme of this year’s Woman Summit was “Unleash Your Power” and the issues discussed include leadership, entrepreneurship, technology and self-development.
Over a dozen of influential and successful business leaders gave speeches and shared their remarkable stories and life lessons. The stories shared were so thought provoking and inspiring that they each left you with positive affirmations like, “I Deserve More”, “Think Outside the Box” or “Shine Everyday”. Mentors including Roberta Annan, Uche Ofodile, Gloria Buckman, Constance Swaniker and Dr. Anita Defoe were present and served as living testimonials for the new generation of strong African women in business. Anita Erskine did a fantastic job as host; moderating the forum and guiding the audience through the two day event. The diversified program was enriched with power couch conversations, networking breaks and special topic features like Breast Cancer and Body Language.
Woman Summit 2.1 is a great opportunity to build networking connections by exchanging business cards and ideas with other aspiring entrepreneurs. At the end of the Woman Summit 2.1 spirits were high. It is always uplifting to see initiatives especially created for African women come alive. The event was a big success, but many seats remained free.
