The Most Powerful Women In Africa

Just as we are prepping our Power Issue, Forbes magazine has released its annual list of the most powerful women in the world and for Africa power means politics as only female politicians made it on the list.

The magazine explains that the rankings are calculated using metrics that measure each woman’s money, media presence and their impact. Caroline Howard at Forbes explains the whole process here.

For the African continent just three women make it on the list. Coming in at number 47 and topping the Africans is Malawi’s President Joyce Banda. Nigeria’s Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Liberia’s President Johnson-Sirleaf are the other two.

We hope to very soon see business leaders, scientists, and female celebrities from the continent also make it on this list. Politics should not be the only way to access power in Africa.
