South Africa: Siza Mzimela first woman to own airline with Fly Blue Crane

Last week the internet was abuzz with news of an all female Ethiopian airline crew, but today we have even bigger women in the air news to share.

large_Siza_Mzimela.jpg_2_Just found out about South Africa’s Siza Mzimela CEO & Founder of Fly Blue Crane, “a start-up airline which took to the skies on the 1st of September 2015. Fly Blue Crane is a dynamic new airline with its operational hub at OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg. Fly Blue Crane offers customers a much needed alternative air travel option to various business and leisure destinations within the Southern African region.”

Before she went all SHE-E-O at her own airline, Ms Mzimela was the CEO of South African Airways (SAA). “Under her leadership, SAA was able to introduce direct services to New York and Beijing, China (a first in the history of the airline). The airline also grew its regional network by adding 8 additional routes in one year. She was appointed as the first female into the Board of Directors at IATA in 67 years.”
