MUSIC: UK Based Sierra Leonean Artist A.M.E Gets Grammy Nomination

So for whatever reason this evening I did something I have never done before. As much as I love music it has never occurred to me to check the list of Grammy Nominees when they are released. But I did this time and I was pleasantly surprised to see Aminata Kabba popularly known as A.M.E on it!

I’m beaming with pride while wishing Sierra Leoneans would seek out, embrace and support each other more, regardless. The song Need U 100 % by Duke Dumont featuring A.M.E and MNEK was one of the hits of the summer and it has been nominated in the Best Dance Recording category.

We are rooting for you A.M.E! The awards ceremony will be held on the 26th of January 2014 and I’ll be following every available live news feed. Is this the closest we’ll ever get to bringing a Grammy home? Or is this the start of something special? A.M.E is only 18! Hopefully this will inspire many young girls to believe in themselves, break out of the box and follow their dreams. Think Global Not Local!

  1. I doubt it would have happened if she was in Sierra Leone. Sadly it reiterates the fact that to have any chance at success, the best thing to do is leave. She might bring a grammy “home” but for the UK. As she should.
