Hillary Clinton finally breaks the ceiling, Shirley Chisholm cracked in 1972

Hillary Clinton

At the age of 14, Dorothy Howell, Hillary Clinton’s mother became a house maid. Today Chelsea Clinton’s mother, Hillary Clinton accepted the nomination of the Democratic Party as its nominee for the Presidency of the United States.

While many other women have run for nomination for President of the United States, Shirley Chisholm was the first. She was from New York and she ran for President back in 1972.

Clinton’s nomination is a big deal. In the 94 years since the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was made, she is the closest a woman has gotten to being the Commander in Chief of the United States.

It is a historic moment. We can only hope that as President, Mrs Clinton will set another historic first for America.

That is to join the rest of the world by signing into law federally mandated paid family and or maternal leave. Women in America currently are at the mercy of their employers and State legislatures  for paid maternity leave. Only three states, California, New Jersey, and Rhode Island, currently offer paid maternity leave in all of America and this is a travesty.

So we are with Hillary because we believe that if anyone is going to fight for American families, mothers, and children that it will be her.
