On March 12, GoWoman Africa will join Fitvolution, founders of the International Women’s Day 7K Walkathon (IWD7K) in Accra, Ghana to celebrate woman power, health, and sisterhood.
IWD7K is expected to bring together 1000 women representing all walks of life.
Maabena Asiedu, Trainer & Wellness Coach says that Fitvolution’s IWD7K is a wake up call to Ghana’s women.
“IWD7K is a unique opportunity for us to not just mark the International Day of the Woman which falls a couple days before the race on March 8, but it is also a time for women to get out of their own way and make their health a priority,” she said.
“We have chosen working moms only as IWD7K Ambassadors. These are women who have a passion for fitness and make time for their physical health. If these moms can do it, why not you?”
IWD7K Ambassadors are Nina Sarpong, a business woman who is a mother of two, Catherine Morton, Operations Director, Millennium Marathon Sports Limited, also a mother of two, and Vickie Remoe, GoWoman Publisher & Editor in Chief, otherwise known as Olu Mama.
The IWD7K team have secured the necessary permits and security needed to ensure that women will enjoy the day in peace. In addition to this ambulances have also been provided for the day to handle any urgent medical needs for IWD7K participants.
Aquafresh’s Frutelli an all natural juice brand manufactured here in Ghana has committed its support to Fitvolution’s IWD7K. A representative from the company said that women’s health should not be neglected and applauded Fitvolution for her commitment to making Ghana’s women healthy.
One of Fitvolution’s IWD7K Ambassadors, Mrs Catherine Morton, said that although she is a working mother of two, that she does not compromise on her health.
“I wasn’t always up for fitness but in the last year I began to pay more and more attention to my health, and today I can say that training with Fitvolution has had a transformational effect on my entire being,” she said.
“When we cross the finish line at the IWD7K, it is going to be an amazingly empowering moment for myself and every single woman there”.
