Flawless and Fabulous Beyonce features Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie on her new album

Flawless and Fabulous: Beyonce and Chimamanda
Flawless and Fabulous: Beyonce and Chimamanda

We just died and went to GoWoman heaven. Never did we ever think that Queen Bey and Queen Chi, two women we worship would be on together let alone on a music track.

Yes, Beyonce released a new album on Itunes overnight. Yes, no one even knew she was even working on new content. Yes, each song has a video already. We’re finding it hard to keep up too.

Flawless perhaps is Beyonce’s ‘feminist’ coming out.  To let the critics know once and for all that regardless of her hip pumping, leotard wearing antics, that she too is a feminist.

Chimamanda doesn’t appear in the video, but her words on the messages we give to girls (you know she talking bout African girls especially)  that has spoken to my core this morning.

Chimamanda doesn’t appear in the video for “Flawless” but here are her words;

“We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller.
We say to girls – you can have ambition, but not too much.
You should aim to be successful but not too successful otherwise you will threaten the man.
Because I am female I am expected to aspire to marriage.
I am expected to make my life choices always keeping in mind that marriage is the most important. A marriage can be a source of joy and love and mutual support.
But why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage and we don’t teach boys the same?
We raise girls to see each other as competitors not for jobs or for accomplishments,
Which I think can be a good thing
But for the attention of men.
We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings in the way that boys are.
Feminist: A person who believes in the economic, social and political equality of the sexes.”

I can not think of a better collaboration between two GoWomen to unite African and American women under a common umbrella of sisterhood.

Feminist? Yes, Me Too!
