Fambul Tok’s new short film on Sierra Leone “Peace Mothers”


It is a well known fact that the women of Sierra Leone suffered uniquely during the 11-year civil war. Many women still deal with the brutality of their experiences everyday. Yet “Peace Mothers” leading the way for peace in their communities and inspiring others around the world. 

“Peace Mothers” are resilient women who are passionate about reconciliation and community development and have the energy to match. They counsel with each other and through their networks of wisdom and care the have managed to help each other heal the wounds from their experiences of the war. They plant crops, build community spaces, speak up in community meetings. The support each other. They sing. They dance.

All across Sierra Leone, women are leading their communities to peace. These ‘Peace Mothers’ are rising from unspeakable challenges to heal the wounds of their decade-long civil war and to generate new growth and development – person by person, village by village.
