Who: On the eve of International Women’s Day The first Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone Sia Koroma, and Mrs Cherie Blair jointly launched the Organization of Women’s Network for Entrepreneurs (OWNERS) at a gathering at the British Council.
OWNERS coordinates the exchange of business ideas, problem solving and women’s interests. The organization provides support to women entrepreneurs as they work to gain access to financial services, and advocate for policies that will improve conditions of business for women.
The Network was formed in 2012 after several round table discussions and focus groups across Sierra Leone. At the various sessions, women entrepreneurs highlighted gender specific challenges in doing business.
First Lady Sia Koroma speaking at the launch said that she will use her office to promote entrepreneurship amongst women.
OWNERS, an initiative of The Cherie Blair Foundation is implemented in Sierra Leone by the African Foundation for Development.
